“CONVICTION.
Krissy Cela signs a 10-year lease for Oner Active's first-ever store, choosing Manhattan over London. Olivia Jade launches a beauty brand after five years of development. Alix Earle's SIPMARGS secures investment and distribution from Sazerac. YouTube introduces shopping directly from connected TV ads.
In a world obsessed with testing, optimising and reducing risk, some of the biggest opportunities still come from making bold bets. A 10-year lease. Five years of product development. Entering a crowded category. Reimagining how consumers shop. None of these decisions come with certainty.
But the businesses creating outsized outcomes are often the ones willing to act before certainty arrives. Data matters. Research matters. Validation matters. At some point, however, growth requires conviction.
The willingness to make a decision before everyone else agrees it's the right one.

The Strategy.

Conviction over consensus
She signed a 10-year Manhattan lease for a brand with no UK store. That's not recklessness, it's reading the data.
Krissy Cela's Oner Active just signed a 10-year lease on Bond Street, New York, for its first-ever physical store, in a city 3,300 miles from home, before opening anywhere in the UK. On paper that looks like ego. Look closer and it's the opposite.
Cela built Oner Active the way the best modern brands are built: audience first. A 1.5m-strong community existed before the product did, so demand was proven before a penny went into inventory. When you already know where your customers are, the 'risky' move, planting your flagship in your single biggest market rather than your home one, is just following the numbers.
The Numbers.
Brand value ~$191m Estimated value of Krissy Cela's activewear brand. | Lease term 10 years On 0 Bond Street, New York, its first store anywhere. | Pre-launch community 1.5m+ Followers built before the brand launched in 2020. | First UK store None yet The US flagship comes before any UK location. |

It mirrors Gymshark's US-first physical playbook. The UK is the founder's home; the US is the brand's biggest market. Most founders open where they live. The disciplined ones open where the customer already is, and they have the data to prove it before they sign the lease.
The transferable lesson isn't 'be bold'. It's 'earn the right to be bold by knowing your customer cold'. Conviction without data is a gamble. Conviction built on a community you already own is just good strategy. TheIndustry.fashion →

Key insight
The Take.
Boldness isn't the strategy. Knowing your customer well enough to move before everyone agrees is. Conviction is what data feels like once you trust it.
